Mike

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Michigan, and have since spent time living in Las Vegas, and the Denver area.

Do you have any hobbies?

Hey, not since my wife and I had kids! In my dream world, I'm soaking myself deep in the world of radio-geekdom, lending a hand at church, and reading books about sociology, philosophy, history, and faith.

How did you come to know the Lord?

How much time do you have? Long story short...I was raised by a single mom who did her best to instill Christian values in me. They didn't really take hold until after high school. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd, doing the wrong things, when God gave me a very clear picture of what a big deal the sacrifice of Jesus was. The mental image I couldn't escape made Him real to me. I've been perfect and sinless ever since. (You sense my sarcasm, right? :-)

What are some of your favorite things to do?

I LOVE driving around, biking, and exploring. I unfortunately love fast food too much. In-n-Out anyone? The highlight of my week is often the time I spend with my family going to church and whatever fun we fall into after the service.

What can you tell us about your family?

I am married to Jennifer. She's smart, quick witted, and quite pretty. We have three boys: Hezekiah, Ephraim, and Ezra. All of them in their single digits, one of them not even walking yet.

How did you get into radio?

I was grounded A LOT growing up. No TV, no going out with friends, and so on. That left radio as my default way to pass time. I quickly got curious about why DJ's did certain things, so I'd call and pick their brains. By the time I turned 18, I knew what I needed to do to get an entry-level job. A jazz station in Michigan was daring enough to give me a shot. Shortly after joining their team, I was hired at a Country station.

Can you share one of your most embarrassing moments as a DJ?

My most embarrassing moment in life so far: a computer froze up while my microphone was on. I said some things without thinking first. The request lines went nuts. I thankfully kept my job and learned how to speak in ways more glorifying to God from that point on.
