Compassionart songwriters, Steven Curtis Chapman, Martin Smith (Delirous),Michael W. Smith and others continued to record songs that were written during a retreat in January. The Nashville studio hummed with activity as the songwriters were joined by guest vocalists tobyMac and Leeland Mooring, each putting down their signature vocals on tracks that were started at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London.
Compassionart, a charity based in Littlehampton, England and dedicated to seeing works of art generate income for the poorest of the poor, hosted a songwriter’s retreat in Scotland, UK. Working together toward a common goal involving no personal gain, the songwriters set out to write 10-12 songs and, by the end of the retreat, had completed 22 new songs.
In addition to the songwriters, the publishers, managers, copyright institutes and agents involved have all waived their rights and are donating their efforts on this project to Compassionart.
What's Joy Williams up to? "At 17, I signed a recording contract with PLG/SonyBMG, and moved to the friendly and muggy town of Nashville, TN. I co-wrote and recorded several albums as Joy Williams, and realized after 7 years of being on the road full time that it was song-writing that kept tugging at my heart. I am now signed as a writer in LA. I'm also with ASCAP. I write for various projects daily with a team of very talented people. I've worked with American Idol finalists, rock bands, pop acts, boy bands, indie artists, tv/film, Disney acts, CCM, country and more. I love crafting a melody and lyric, and I love what I do."

Third Day started their 2008 off on a patriotic note as the band traveled to Kuwait and Iraq in mid-January as part of a USO/Army and Air Force Chaplains entertainment tour. The band made the overseas trip to meet and perform with servicemen and women at several bases in the Persian Gulf. Upon return, Third Day received a letter from Maj. Gen. Mark P. Hertling, commanding general of Task Force Iron at C.O.B. Speicher, thanking them for their visit. "Your superb concert... not only entertained our deployed service members and civilians, but also enhanced our combat readiness and soldier spiritual fitness," the letter said.

After years of health problems, Christian rock pioneer Larry Norman passed away last Sunday, February 24 due to heart failure; he was 60. Often referred to as "the father of Christian rock," many credit Norman with starting the genre through the release of his Upon This Rock album in 1969. Hours before his death, Norman dictated a final message to his fans through his web site, saying, "I feel like a prize in a box of cracker jacks with God's hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home." The official announcement can be found at LarryNorman.com

Prolific singer and songwriter Matthew West returns to action on January 15, 2008 with Something To Say, a new album that looks to be his most directly biographical offering to date.
West, who had to undergo surgery on his vocal chords and could not speak for two months following the procedure, wrote much of Something To Say based on what he learned during that season of silence.
"I couldn’t speak directly to my wife, sing to my daughter, or answer the phone. Our weakest moments become our defining moments when we allow God to speak to us through them," he says.

This year is proving to be an exciting year for Multi-Platinum recording artist Jaci Velasquez and her husband Nic Gonzales of the award-winning band, Salvador. The couple was legally being wed on December 5, 2006 at a small get-together in Franklin, TN, which was followed by a formal ceremony in Austin, TX on December 17th. Since then the couple has worked on music, settled down in Nashville, TN and NOW is preparing for a new addition to their budding family, due mid-November - a baby BOY!! "We’re thrilled and already feel creatively inspired by our son," said Jaci. During her pregnancy, Jaci will be in the studio working on her next album.

The Hands & Feet Project, a nonprofit organization started by members of Audio Adrenaline, was chosen as the home for an unwanted baby girl that was thrown down a 28-foot outhouse hole in a small Haitian village. A teenage boy found the infant and then alerted authorities, which mobilized to the scene and rescued her. "After being dropped 30 feet into a pit and left for dead, and there were no bruises, no signs of trauma. I knew I had witnessed a miracle," said Darry "DJ" Williams, an American UN soldier who facilitated the rescue efforts.

Eighteen-year-old singer/songwriter Bethany Dillon announced her engagement to Shane Barnard (of acoustic-pop duo Shane & Shane). "I’m getting hitched to the Godliest, humblest, sweetest man on the planet," said Dillon in her journal posting. "What a blessing to get to share my life with the best friend I've ever had!" No official wedding date has been set yet.
