About Logos Broadcasting:
This ministry’s story is filled with God’s supernatural involvement, starting with the vision of one man and growing to a multi-station ministry serving a population area of nearly 2 million people with life-changing Christian music and talk.
The story begins even before the 1989 birth of Logos Broadcasting Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in California's San Luis Obispo County. Dan Lemburg, a local businessman, had sensed God’s calling for several months to start a Christian radio station for the Central Coast.
In Dan’s words, “Driving down the road, I was complaining to God, ‘Why isn’t there any Christian radio around here?’ God answered, ‘Why don’t you do something about it?’” After wrestling with God for several months, Dan responded to His call.
Without any radio background and relatively new to the area, Dan began taking steps of faith. First, he asked a local Christian attorney to file the paperwork to establish the non-profit entity, Logos Broadcasting Corporation. Then he recruited other local people who shared his vision, and they filed an application with the FCC for a Construction Permit in 1990.
Only one person, Dan Woods, had any radio experience, but now he was a surgeon. Yet, these men and women moved forward in response to God’s calling, and they trusted Him with the vision. They raised the funds, hired engineering and legal experts, and networked with other local leaders. As they prayed and worked, God began to turn the vision into reality.
The Logos studios and headquarters were established in downtown San Luis Obispo, CA, in 1994, and they remain in the same location today. The ministry currently operates four radio stations and two live internet streams from these studios, with more geographical coverage than any radio station originating on the Central and Gold Coasts of California. The first station, K-LIFE 89.3 FM, signed on the air from its tower site atop Cuesta Peak on a hot afternoon, September 26, 1995. The station serves the entire Central Coast.
Logos added simulcasting K-LIFE FM stations in Santa Barbara and Ventura County in 2003, and today its stations cover a population area of nearly two million people from San Luis Obispo County to the Los Angeles County Line.
With a commitment to local radio, Logos has plans to establish a local presence in each of the markets it serves.
In addition to its FM stations, Logos launched 890AM in 2002, which provides its Interactive Christian Talk format to over 400,000 people on the Central Coast, covering San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County. This was the culmination of a four year faith, prayer and work effort by the Board and staff.
Logos continues to grow, and, as God leads, has a vision to, by the end of 2012, be the leading provider of localized Christian music and talk formats to our target audience in the tri-counties (SLO, SB, Ventura) region.
